MARION Star -
Tri-Rivers
Engineering students won the Marion Technical College/Marion Area VEX Qualifier
Friday, Feb. 24 at the Alber Center on the MTC/OSUM campus.
They placed 1st out of 45 teams. They teamed up with Zanesville and Jay County, Indiana teams to win the extremely competitive event and close final found. This makes them a World Qualifier! Team members included: Aaron Kneisley, Tyler Major and Trent Avon. Their instructor is Mr. Ritch Ramey.
“I thought all teams were excellent today. The event was very competitive and I was impressed with how supportive the contestants were of each other,” said Ramey. “There were many handshakes and teams congratulating each other after each event. Our team that won helped a team completely rebuild their robot. That’s true engineering.”
Placing 2nd was another local team—River Valley with team members Evan Springer and Mitch Messenger. Their robot won the US Yachiyo Award of Excellence for the best overall robot, which also made them a World Qualifier. Other area teams competing included: Cardington Ridgedale, North Union, Marion Harding and Elgin.
Winners of the Depco, inc. Judges Award went to Wake Henry, Jose Arteaga and Shawn Moystner of Tri-Rivers Career Center for robot design and engineering notebook.
